When I'm not out on assignment, I love to get out and photograph anything from landscapes to city scenes. My camera is rarely not by my side, especially when traveling and below is a selection of my favourite images, hand picked from my adventures. You may also like to review some of my images in the "Personal Projects" section above; if you see an image you like there or anywhere on my site then you can always reach out and talk about availability.
All images are delivered as unframed prints printed professionally (I use a local lab in Santa Cruz) on highest quality lustre paper, which balances matt and gloss finishes perfectly. I print each image at the highest resolution possible (they have been scaled down here to protect them from theft) and I remove the watermark. Each order is suitably protected and packaged, local pick up (near Santa Cruz, CA) is always welcome and includes a free coffee or cup of tea! If you are interested in framing, I can ship directly to your framer or I can also work with you on custom printing options.
I spent five years living in Santa Cruz, California and I still miss the sun and the beach! I really like the different tones of gray in this image, shot during the winter time.
This wide panoramic image is over 50 images combined into a single, beautiful and detailed picture, capturing the Capitola promenade.
I love this image, captured while on vacation in Costa Rice. With the sun setting on a moody gray sky, the darkness of the beach contrasts nicely with the bright white of the rolling waves. I used a slightly long exposure to create the blur in the water as it retreats back along the beach, as well as capture the spray from the surf.
In August 2017, I took a road trip from San Jose to Las Vegas, traveling through Yosemite and onto Mammoth before passing through Death Valley. It's always a challenge to find a composition in a place like Yosemite that hasn't been captured millions of times over, perhaps this has too, but I really like how Half Dome is framed by the trees on each side, the fallen tree trunk at the bottom and the sky above. In this image, the sky is actually enhanced by a forest fire and rain clouds which, despite it not being near sunset, created a similar effect.
For me, the highlight of the Amalfi Coast, situated along the southern edge of Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula is Positano. The sweeping hills on which this seaside town is built, lead to steep, stacked buildings, centered around the main church. Sat having a glass of wine at the La Sirenuse hotel, I was able to set up my camera and capture a series of images, which I then blended together to create this intriguing sunset, night and dusk scene.
While on the Amalfi coast, situated in Italy’s Sorrentine Peninsula, I took a public bus from Praiano to Positano. As the bus followed the route along the winding coastline, I was desperate to make it to Positano in time for the sunset however, I quickly realised that there was a just as nice image right in front of me. Waiting until the angle of the sun and the alignment of the coast was just right, I managed to capture this image. I love this picture, it makes me imagine how simple life could be, just driving a bus every day along this beautiful coastline must feel like a privilege.
I spend quite a lot of time on trains since moving back to England, but it's worth it when I get to take pictures like this one. Arriving early in the morning for a train to London, the sun was beaming in through the station, filling it with beautiful golden light. I spent the train ride processing and editing the picture.
I shot this beach/sea-scape image while in Tulum, Mexico. With the sun late in the day, it lights up the enormous cloud perfectly, plus the ocean is so clear and blue.
This stormy day beach scene is from just outside of Santa Cruz, California. I was planning to do a yoga shoot that day but the weather pretty much wiped that out. Instead, I pointed the camera out to sea and captured these beautiful layered waves against a suitably moody sky.
At the northern tip of Barbados, the Caribbean Sea meets the great North Atlantic Ocean. With nothing to the east for literally thousands of miles, the coastline is subjected to some impressive forces, resulting in some huge waves.
Perched on a cliff, I set up my camera and took a long exposure image, finishing and moving away just seconds before a huge wave came in and while not in danger, I would have been completely soaked, along with all my camera equipment! Either way, I think this is one of the finest images I have captured, it was worth the effort.
This image was a tale of being in the right place at the right time. Standing in front of the Concorde hangar at Manchester airport, I happened to look up and see the reflection of the blue sky in the hanger windows and I was struck by the image of the mighty plane almost looking out longingly, remembering a time when it was up there changing the world.
Sure, this is an image captured likely millions of times but a long exposure, with a wonderful glow from a night scene, is my take on an iconic image. I really like how the trails from the buses on the bridge help to create a sense of movement in a scene that is typically always busy.
I spend quite a bit of time in London, it's a truly amazing city and I have a whole section of images on my site in the "Personal Projects" section. This image captures the long, long shadows of the setting sun in this interesting street scene.
When I first came across this scene, I took my time to get the tripod out, get everything level and do all the things a photographer does before they click the button to take an image. As I am looking at the image I captured, it felt nice, I was happy in fact but then a young waiter from the restaurant came out on a break and proceeded to sit down right in the bottom of my image - I could barely fire off the images fast enough as I think it adds a wonderful balance to this image. I really like how the powerful beams of light coming from the Shard are met by the waiter's complete disinterest in the scene, I think it highlights that we so often miss the beauty of things all around us or at the very least become completely spoiled by repeated exposure!
Architecture is a big part of what I love to capture and this image is one of my favorites. The people in the bottom right add a nice sense of scale and the black and white composition enhances the lines and symmetry of the image.
I've found some great characters at train stations and these two gentlemen are prime examples. The station is Crewe in Cheshire.
I have an entire blog post on my site dedicated to shooting the Cascades at Blenheim Palace but this is my favourite of all the images. Using a long exposure to capture that wonderful sense of movement in the water, I waited for what felt like an age for the bridge to clear, so I could capture this scene uniterrupted.
One of my favorite images, the iconic Santa Cruz lighthouse captured here with a strong winter storm rolling in.
